The Coastal Plain League announced today, August 21, that Christian Scafidi of the Holly Springs Salamanders has been named the 2018 CPL Pitcher of the Year. This was Scafidi's first season with the Salamanders and his first in the CPL.
Scafidi, a 6-4, 255-pound rising-junior from the University of Pennsylvania put together a 0.66 ERA across seven starts and 41 innings pitched as the clear ace of the Salamanders staff. Further showing his dominance was the fact he allowed only 19 hits, with only one of which being an extra-base hit, and three earned runs while striking out 52 and walking only 12 for a .140 opposing batting average, 0.75 WHIP and 11.41 K/9.
One of his most impressive night's came on July 28 versus Wilmington when he tossed six innings while striking out 12 and walking none while allowing only two hits, this performance earned him Week Eight Pitcher of the Week honors. Scafidi was also named to the American All-Star team in July, allowing no runs and striking out two in his inning of work.
