Jordan Schulefand, Daniel Little, and Camden Williamson crossed the plate in the first inning for the Marlins. No more than four Marlins would come to the plate in any one inning for the remainder of the game as Salamander pitchers Parker Thode, Brent Herlong, and Kyle Davis held them at bay. The Salamanders then began chipping away at the Marlins' lead, plating single runs in the third, fifth, and eighth innings to eventually tie the contest 3 – 3 heading into the final frame.
The ninth inning was full of drama as two walks and a fielder's error placed the bases full of Marlins with nobody out. Salamander reliever Kyle Davis then came in relief of Brent Herlong and proceeded to strike out Schulefand, Little, and Williamson in order.
And the Salamanders didn't let the opportunity go to waste in the bottom half. After a leadoff strikeout to Jack Cucinotta, Cody Cline delivered a base hit with a hard liner back to the mound and advanced to third on a pickoff throwing error. Ryan McDonald then worked a walk on Marlin reliever Collin Schultz, putting runners on first and second base with one out. It didn't take long for Tyler Smith to deliver a line-drive hit over the outstretched arms of Marlin second baseman Tony Mack to send the Marlins home with a 4 – 3 walk off victory.
The Marlins travel to Wilson to face the Tobs tomorrow evening before coming home for back-to-back games Friday and Saturday evening.
