Catcher John Michael Faile delivered two doubles, a single, a sacrifice fly, and a mammoth home run to generate six RBI, catapulting the Salamander's to a 7 – 6 come-from-behind-victory over the Peninsula Pilots on Friday evening at Ting Park.
The Pilots scored runs in the first and third innings to take an early two-run lead. The Salamanders jumped ahead in the bottom of the third inning when Faile delivered a towering three-run homer to left center scoring Tyler Smith and Liam Hicks.
The Pilots went back on top, scoring two runs in both the top of the fourth and fifth to take a 6 – 3 lead.
The score remained the same until the bottom of the seventh inning when Faile delivered what appeared to be his second three-run homer of the game. The long fly, however, fell just short of the wall scoring Tyler Smith on a sacrifice fly, 6 - 4. Liam Hicks later scored in the inning on a passed ball bringing the Salamanders within one.
The Salamanders pulled their "Ting Park magic" once again plating two more runs in the bottom of the eighth when Faile delivered his second double of the evening scoring both Smith and Hicks.
The Salamanders took their 8 – 7 lead into the top of the 9th inning when reliever Baker Nelson used a mid 90's fastball and precise location to retire the Pilots. The victory continues the Salamanders undefeated streak at Ting Park and brings their season record to 5 – 4 on the year.
The Salamanders return home to Ting Park tomorrow evening when they host the Morehead City Marlins once again on "Star Wars Night".
