The Salamander's pitching staff held the Copperheads scoreless for eight of the nine innings and Chris Crabtree's two home runs lead the Holly Spring's offense to a 4 – 2 victory Wednesday evening at Ting Park.
The Asheboro Copperheads scored two runs in the first inning as a result of a Sean Phelan home run to right field. That was the end of the scoring for Asheboro for the evening. Salamander pitcher's Nik Pry, Baker Nelson, and Kyle Davis combined to scatter six hits and hold the visitors at bay for the remainder of the evening. Salamander slugger Chris Crabtree continued his hot streak adding two home runs and three RBI's for the evening.
Salamander starter Nik Pry allowed one two run home run, four hits, two walks, while striking out nine in 5 1/3 innings. Baker Nelson and Kyle Davis pitched the remainder of the way pitching 3 2/3 scoreless innings while allowing four hits.
Tyler Smith, AJ Hrica, Will Hoyle, and Noah Jones each delivered key hits for the Salamanders. Chris Crabtree's solo home run in the second inning and his two run shot in the sixth was his sixth and seventh home runs of the year. This marked the second game of the year in which Crabtree has homered twice in a single game.
The victory brings the Salamanders to 1 win and 2 losses in the new second half of the season. The Salamander's travel to face the Peninsula Pilots tomorrow evening with a 7:05 first pitch.
