After the SwampDogs plated one run in the first inning, the Salamander pitching staff held the visitors scoreless for the remainder of the game scattering five hits along the way. The Salamander offense also came alive plating seven runs in five different innings while delivering twelve hits on the evening.
SwampDog left fielder Pearce Howard delivered three of Fayetteville's five hits with two doubles and a triple. The SwampDogs had the bases loaded with no outs in the fourth inning. However, a sharply hit line drive speared by Salamander second baseman Charlie Benson doubled off Alex Kachler at second base. Then SwampDog first baseman KC Brown hit another sharp liner to Salamander third baseman Jake Hotzapple to thwart the threat in the top of the fourth.
Salamander pitchers Tom Gugliomello, Holden Cook, and Tyler Vogel delivered great outings holding the SwampDogs to only one run on the night. Kyle Davis continued his great work as he closed out the ninth inning.
The Salamanders head to Martinsville to face the Mustangs tomorrow evening with a 7:15 first pitch. The SwampDogs will travel to Wilmington to face the Sharks tomorrow evening at 7:05.
