The Steamers Defeat the Salamanders 2 – 1 in Weather Shortened Contest at Ting Park Thursday Night

The Steamers Defeat the Salamanders 2 – 1 in Weather Shortened Contest at Ting Park Thursday Night

The Edenton Steamers used sacrifice flies by Clayton Beaver in the second inning and Ian Walters in the fifth to defeat the Salamanders 2 – 1 Thursday night at Ting Park.

The Salamanders cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Singles by Itchy Burts, Noah Jones, and Chance Bryant gave the Salamanders bases loaded and no outs to lead off the inning.  A double play off the bat of Tyler Smith plated Itchy Burts for the lone Salamander run.

Local lightening strikes and a torrential downpour shortened the evening for both teams in the top of the sixth.

The Salamanders head to Florence, S.C. to face the Red Wolves tomorrow evening at 7:00 p.m.  The season ends for the Manders Saturday night when they face the Peninsula Pilots with a 6:30 first pitch.
